Fairacres, Finchley - under construction

Redevelopment under way, reopening our doors in 2028.

Our plans

The redevelopment of Fairacres will involve extending the existing 29 one-bedroom apartments, in order to ensure they are all wheelchair-accessible. It will also mean adding 11 more units, including 4 two-bedroom family apartments, bringing the total to 40. It will enable us to transform more lives of people living with physical disabilities or vision impairments who are struggling to cope in accommodation that is totally unsuitable to their needs.

Our plans

JBD strive to provide the highest quality housing and support to our tenants. The current Fairacres building no longer allows us to meet this objective. Redeveloping this site will allow us to ensure that it better meets the needs of today’s tenants and delivers more much needed accommodation to the local community.

Facilities

The apartments will be designed to meet the needs of people with physical disabilities or vision impairments using latest technology and equipment, with:

  • Accessible modern fitted kitchens
  • Walk in shower rooms to accommodate wheelchairs
  • Communal laundry facilities – with accessible machines
  • A communal lounge
  • Garden and roof terrace
  • Tenants parking

Timescale

Having received planning permission in January 2025, work began on site in March 2026. Completion of the development is expected to be in October 2027, with doors officially expected to open in January 2028.

Funding for Fairacres

We are thrilled that the project has been funded in part through donations and interest free loans from individuals, families, Trusts & Foundations, as well as a multimillion-pound grant from the Greater London Authority (GLA). The grant, has been offered because of an innovative collaboration with the Joel Emanuel Trust (JET) which is part of Jewish Care.

As JBD is not a registered provider of housing, we could not apply for this funding without partnering with one. Through partnering with JET, we were able to apply for GLA funding. We are incredibly grateful to Jewish Care for their partnership. Find out more here.
