Latest update – Covid 19

27 May 2020

Over the last two months, JBD has been following government guidance carefully, taking a range of steps to prevent the spread of Covid-19 and ensure we can offer the appropriate level of support to all our tenants.

Whilst we know it is a difficult time for everyone, our priority is and will always be our tenants – protecting them and looking out for their wellbeing.  All the measures we have adopted focus on this.

This includes: closing communal areas in all our buildings except laundry rooms, gardens and roof terraces, where we have introduced strict social distancing measures, additional cleaning focused on touch points in buildings and suspending all visitors entering the buildings.

Throughout this time, we have continued to offer our 24/7 support with House Managers being on site and tenants called twice a day at least to see how they are.

70 new volunteers have been recruited, all of whom have been trained online.  They are volunteering alongside our long-standing volunteers, and enabling us to provide additional support to tenants including telephone befriending and a shopping service for tenants unable to shop online, or without family able to assist.

Whilst many of our tenants are enjoying our new wide-ranging programme of Zoom activities, we are aware that others who aren’t online and are isolating are feeling bored and lonely. We are going above and beyond to support all of our tenants and ensure they feel connected. With thanks to some generous donations, we have been able to buy activities such as crosswords, puzzles, painting kits, knitting needles and wool to try and keep tenants spirits up and ensure those that are digitally excluded have activities that they can enjoy from the comfort of their own homes.

From delivering challahs on Shabbat to tenants to our Passover parcels we are doing all we can to provide support and comfort to help our tenants through these difficult times.

We are extremely grateful for all the ongoing generosity of all JBD’s supporters and for the invaluable time our amazing volunteers are giving.
