Tenant with pull cord alarm
26 November 2020

We have been safely moving tenants into their apartments since the start of June when the government advice allowed home moves. Since then, 20 new tenants have moved into their very own apartment in one of our 7 Jewish Blind & Disabled buildings and they have been given their keys to independence.

All our mobility apartments are specially designed to enable people to do the everyday tasks that are key to living independently, in safety with their own front door. Our apartments feature accessible, modern fitted kitchens with relevant aids and adaptations and walk in shower rooms spacious enough to accommodate wheelchairs and all our buildings have accessible, step-free access.

Martine moved into her apartment at Aztec House in June. She has psoriatic arthritis which affects her movement and was previously living in unsuitable accommodation. She said: “JBD was definitely the right move for me. If anything happened during the night, I know I can pull the cord and someone will be at the end of the line. For me, this was a long term move and I feel settled and see myself being here for the next 20 plus years. Seeing as I’m on my own, it’s nice to know there are other people around.”

We allocate apartments on a points-based system according to those in greatest need and we have a limited number of apartments available but new apartments become free on a monthly basis.

If you or someone you know is struggling in unsuitable accommodation and would benefit from living in a Jewish Blind & Disabled building, please click here for the application form or call us on 020 8371 6611 for more information.
