Chaya recently benefited from a visit from Jewish Blind & Disabled’s Independent Living Advisory Service (ILA).
Following a home visit from our occupational therapists (OT’s), Chaya, an amputee, described the support she received as “10 out of 10 – they were amazing!” In fact, she was so impressed, she added, “Make that 12 out of 10!”
As part of the visit, our team identified a range of adaptations that could help Chaya live more safely and independently at home. With their guidance and encouragement, she has now been able to access several helpful aids, including:
Each item was demonstrated clearly during the visit, helping Chaya feel confident using them. Chaya said: “The OT’s showed me how everything worked, and these aids have made life a lot easier.”
When asked whether the recommendations have helped her remain independent at home, Chaya didn’t hesitate: “Definitely yes.”
Chaya has generously agreed to share her story so others can see the impact of the support available. “I would highly recommend the service,” she said.
We’re so pleased to hear that Chaya’s experience has been so positive, and we thank her for helping us raise awareness of this important service.
This free service helps people maintain their independence at home and we offer impartial advice from an occupational therapist on a range of areas, including: how you move around your home, aids and devices to help with tasks such as cooking, dressing and personal care or technology to assist with opening doors and windows, and controlling the temperature.
If you or someone you know might benefit from the Independent Living Advisory Service, please see here for more information and details on how to apply.
