Criteria

To be considered for this service, you must:

  • Live with a vision impairment
  • Be 18 or over and identify as Jewish
  • Live within the M25

This service, delivered by Guide Dogs in partnership with JBD, focuses on helping you remain safe, confident and as independent as possible in your home.

The VRS will observe how you manage around your home and advise on aids and techniques to support everyday tasks. This may include kitchen safety skills training, with recommendations ranging from simple items such as long-sleeved oven gloves or adapted chopping boards, to larger or specialist equipment such as talking ovens or microwaves where appropriate.

The assessment may also include:

  • How you access information: including using your phone, accessing entertainment and telling the time.
  • Product recommendation for low vision aids such as task lighting, magnifiers, labelling and bump dots.
  • Guidance on audiobooks, apps and large-print reading materials.
