Supporting Independent Living


The support that we give is specifically designed to enable adults with physical disabilities or impaired vision to live independently.

In addition to our specialist developments of mobility apartments we now also have an Independent Living Advisor who is able to visit people living out in the community to offer help and advice on the aids and technologies that could help them to maintain their much-prized independence. Where these are not affordable, we may even be able to cover the cost of their purchase with the user keeping them for as long as they are needed. In addition we have our free to use online guide - 'Empowering Ability', this takes someone through a series of simple yes/no questions to identify the products that could help them continue to live independently.

We do not run care homes and do not, therefore, offer full time care or nursing support. We do, however, ensure that assistance is on hand 24 hours a day, seven days a week from our resident house managers and, in addition, we have a Tenancy Support team based at head office who help tenants who need help with on going matters such as putting together care packages etc.

    We are excited to announce our new Independent Living Advisory Service which allows us to take our expertise in independent living to people who are unable or unwilling to move into one of our state-of-the-art developments, starting within the M25 area.

    The provision of 24 hour a day, seven days a week on site support from our resident house managers is a vital element of the unique facilities that only we offer. Each of our buildings has its own special community atmosphere and in addition to giving assistance as and when required, our house managers are also central to their communities.

    Jewish Blind & Disabled has a dedicated Tenancy Support Team.     We take pride in maintaining each of our buildings to the highest standard. The property department looks after all aspects from daily cleaning of all the common parts to a seven yearly cycle of complete redecoration an dour maintenance operatives are on call 24/7 in case of an emergecny.

    We have two specially adapted buses that take tenants on trips to the local shops twice a week enabling them to get out and about when otherwise they may well not have the opportunity of doing so.
