What does independence mean to you?

See what happened when TV presenter Rob Rinder met some of our tenants to find out what independence means to them…

For Diana and Steve, who both have debilitating hereditary conditions, it’s being able to live in a specially adapted flat which meets their needs, while also feeling part of a warm, supportive community.  They know help is just outside their front door whenever they need it.

For Miriam, who has no vision left at all, it’s feeling safe and secure answering her front door, and the support of a house manager, every hour of day and night.

For Gary, who is living with Parkinson’s disease, it’s living in a specially adapted apartment with emergency pull cords and buttons.  He knows that whenever his beloved wife Yvonne goes out, there’s always a house manager very close by in case of emergency.

For Yvonne, it’s being able do the things she’s always enjoyed, like cycling, while being safe in the knowledge that Gary will be OK in her absence – even if he falls.

For Neil, who lives with multiple sclerosis, it means having a fully automated apartment which helps him with everyday tasks, and never having to worry about where to park his car and mobility scooter.
