Only Jewish Blind & Disabled provides modern developments of one and two bedroom mobility apartments specially designed to enable adults aged 18+, who are physically disabled or vision impaired, to maintain their much-prized independence. Every apartment can be decorated to reflect the taste, personality and lifestyle of each tenant the personality but they all have in common the special features and thoughtful touches that help to transform lives.
In the midst of the current unsettling situation, we are pleased to be able to announce some good news. We have just received the keys to a new building in the heart of the Jewish community.
In addition to planning how best to keep our current 360 tenants safe and secure, whilst still enabling them to continue to enjoy their much-prized independence, we are also planning to transform this building into 30 state-of-the-art mobility apartments that will transform the lives of more people who are currently struggling to cope in accommodation that is unsuitable to their needs. Our Pesach appeal kick starts our fundraising for this vital building, although we appreciate that this is a difficult time for everyone we hope that our wonderful supporters will help us to raise the money we need to create this latest development.
As with our existing seven buildings, 'number eight' will be full of the special features that are so vital to helping our tenant to manage essential everyday tasks for themselves, including:
wet floor shower rooms
accessible kitchens
call cords in every room and throughout communal areas
intercom that can be used from any room in the apartment
specialist lighting
doors wide enough to allow easy wheelchair/walker access
raised plug sockets for easy access
automatic front doors
video entry on TV
colour coded floors for ease of orientation
wide corridors to allow wheelchairs to pass each other with ease
accessible lift
These features, together with 24/7 on site support from our own house managers, empower those who have no other organisation to whom they can turn to live life as they choose behind their own front door.
Please take a few minutes to hear from Hayley, Kane, Pamela and Tracy about the difference we have made to their lives among so many others.
As a totally independent charity with no government funding, your support helps to make all the difference to someone facing the daily challenge of overcoming physical disability or vision impairment in order to live an independent life.
Please donate now to help us turn more lives around.
