Can you imagine what it's like... it's like... to not be
able to bathe yourself?
it's like... to be unable to cook
without risking an accident?
it's like... to feel like you are living
in solitary confinement?
The evidence is clear, you can help tear down the barriers to independence.

On Thursday 31st March 2011 volunteer Louise White with guide dog Pippin along side Gemma and Danielle (from the office) took their educational programme to North West London Jewish Day School.

Gemma introduced Louise, Pippin and Danielle and gave a brief insight into how Jewish Blind & Disabled support all their tenants to live independently.

Louise explained the importance of having Pippin and how he supports her by taking the role of her eyes outside of her comfort zone. The session was interactive and some of the children were allowed to walk Pippin and try out the commands they had been taught.

Louise who lost her sight a number of years ago demonstrated to the children how she copes with everyday life. She brought in a number of gadgets which the children found fascinating.

Parent Arielle Scemama said “Louise was a real eye opener for all the children as well as the adults who attended the session. I could not believe the impact technology has had on the blind & visually impaired.”

Pupils were given goodie bags to take home which included information about the charity, a competition to design an invention for Louise, a magnetic bookmark, a braille card as well as lots of other exiting goodies.

After visiting over 12 schools, Louise and Pippin have become celebrities in their own right!
