Can you imagine what it's like... it's like... to not be
able to bathe yourself?
it's like... to be unable to cook
without risking an accident?
it's like... to feel like you are living
in solitary confinement?
The evidence is clear, you can help tear down the barriers to independence.

Jewish Blind & Disabled is delighted to announce that building work has now started on its latest development of state-of-the-art mobility apartments in Bushey Heath, Hertfordshire.

This newest project will provide 41 apartments in total - 39 one bedroom state-of-the-art mobility apartments for the benefit of physically disabledor vision impaired people of all ages, plus two apartments for the full time on site house managers thereby ensuring their availability 24 hours a day, seven days a week. There will also be a guest suite for visiting family or friends, as well as welcoming communal areas, landscaped gardens with raised sensory area and roof terrace. Each of the spacious one bedroom apartments will be designed to the highest mobility standards, with many also benefitting from a balcony.

Jewish Blind & Disabled is the only charity in the Jewish community providing these specially designed apartments for physically disabled or vision impaired people of all ages, and there is always a waiting list of people in real, and often urgent, need. This list has become increasingly dominated by people living in the fast growing North West London/Hertfordshire communities. It is, therefore, particularly important to be able to offer this fantastic new facility in this area.

"This new development will increase our portfolio to seven purpose built complexes" said John Joseph, chairman "This means we will soon be able to give a total of 359 tenants their own personal key to independence. Without Jewish Blind & Disabled these tenants would have had to choose between a life of housebound dependence or an unwanted move into residential care, often at a comparatively young age. Instead of this they have the independence and dignity of choice that can only come from having the key to their own front door, and should help be required it is always on hand just the other side of that door."

"As a relatively small, completely independent organisation that receives no government funding we are only able to continue and grow our unique and vital work with the support of the community we serve." said Hazel Kaye, chief executive. "We are delighted that we have already raised the fantastic sum of £8.3m toward this exciting project but obviously we still have some way to go and need to raise another £1.95m"
