Leave a Legacy

Leaving the legacy of independence now means that everyone can benefit. The recent budget proposed changes to tax legislation allowing for a lower rate of inheritance tax to be levied wherever a legacy has been left to charity.

It's a common myth that only the rich and famous leave money to charity when they die. This couldn't be any further from the truth. The reality is that it is the gifts left in wills by ordinary people that are vital to enabling us to continue and expand our unique facilities.

Thankfully the vast majority of the Jewish community support charities and when asked over a third of people say they'd happily leave a gift in their will once family and friends had been provided for.

The problem is only 7% actually do.

That's why, if we all leave some money in our wills for charity as well as our family, we can make a huge difference. In fact, just a 4% change in behaviour would generate an addition £1 billion for good causes in the UK every year.

So, you don't have to be rich and famous to make a contribution that can make a difference and, with the proposed changes in taxation, everyone will benefit.

"Life can change so suddenly and you never know what lies ahead. From being a sports mad advertising executive my husband is now confined to a wheelchair by his progressive multiple sclerosis. However, thanks to Jewish Blind & Disabled we are both able to get on with our lives which may have changed but certainly have not stopped - as we make the most of every precious day."
