Get involved - Become a volunteer
Your time is just as valuable to us as your money. Whatever your background, you'll find that volunteering is both rewarding and challenging.
The volunteer department at Jewish Blind and Disabled is a busy one. Our volunteer co-ordinators organise a wide range of activities and assist in the running of our many in-house clubs. Through the efforts of our dedicated volunteers we are able to provide tenants with a vibrant and stimulating social environment in which they can choose to participate to whatever extent suits their needs.

Our volunteers are generous and conscientious people who willingly give of their time and skills. They come from varied backgrounds and are at different stages of their lives:
All volunteers are required, by law, to undergo the Criminal Records Bureau check and an induction and training programme, both of which will be facilitated by the Jewish Blind & Disabled volunteer coordinator.
Volunteering opportunities include:-
Organising coffee mornings/ luncheons/ suppers
Scheduling and support entertainers’ visits
Prescription runs and shopping trips
Co-ordinating bake-ins
Friendly visiting
Leading quiz programmes and discussion groups
Encouraging and supporting participation in chess and card clubs
Helping tenants to read and write letters
Assisting with religious input
YOU AND YOUR TIME CAN MAKE A DIFFERENCE TO OUR TENANTS LIVES

- Youth volunteers doing a community service programme or a specially accredited scheme like The Duke of Edinburgh Award Scheme.
- Students on placement schemes
- People raising a family or taking a career break
- Non-working parents with children at school and time on their hands
- People approaching the age of retirement and looking for new avenues for their knowledge and skills
All volunteers are required, by law, to undergo the Criminal Records Bureau check and an induction and training programme, both of which will be facilitated by the Jewish Blind & Disabled volunteer coordinator.
